KAN 2005 Finals

The sixth final of the Festival took place on the 22nd-24th of April 2005 in Wrocław. First several Special Shows were organized promoting the best movies from the previous editions of the Festival. The shows were held in cities in Poland and abroad during the whole academic year 2004/2005.
The Final took place in the main hall of Warszawa cinema and in the festival’s club “Droga do mekki”. The movie lovers watched the movies in an unique atmosphere, created by the extraordinary decorations and ornaments changing completely the image of the cinema.
39 amateur and independent competition films were shown. From different places in Poland we received 280 titles applying for the competition part (the movies were selected by the Qualification Commission). The movies not participating in the competition were presented as well. The films were judged by the jury: Jacek Petrycki (cameraman), Andrzej Zaj±czkowski (documentary director), Dariusz Majchrzak (actor).

The Golden KANewka - "Pokonać nudę" – Sebastian Jensz-Stawowczyk, for the warm subtlety and the interpretation of all what we are dreaming of,
The Silver KANewka - "Wizyta" – Marta Kucharska, for the obstinacy and loyalty,
The Bronze KANewka - "Kiedy będziesz" – Edyta Wróblewska, for the accurate presentation of the dilemma.

The Silver KANewka - "Między nami dzieciakami" – Piotr Matwiejczyk, for originality of the script , sensibility and warmth.
The Bronze KANewka - "Q2" – Cyprian Demianiuk, for the most accurate satire about the couch-potatoes

The Special Award of the French Embassy
For the first time in his year we cooperated with the French Embassy, which decided to award during the Festival KAN a trip to the Festival of the French Song Francofolies that took place on the 11th-20th of July 2005 in La Rochelle. Nominated to this award were all the movie authors qualified to the KAN Final In the age between 18 and 25 years. The awarded authors were: Oliwia Olczyk and Beata Marciniak for the movie „Szok w toku”.

The movie workshops
During the two competition days of the Festival (Friday and Saturday), the great cameraman and assembler Witold Chomiński provided us with some secret tricks in the movie art, talking in particular about the arrangement of light and actors.

The Pre-final Special Show
On the 21st of April, thanks to the Foundation of Polish-German Co-operation a Special Show of Independent Cinema KAN – Poland, Germany, Europe was organized. We invited ten movie authors from the friend festival Internationales Filmwochenende from Wuerzburg (Germany) and we showed their movies. It was also possible to watch the movies from France, Switzerland, United Kingdom. The Show ended with a discussion with the invited guests, full of emotions, doubts, questions.

The Competition for the commercial Spot promoting KAN Festival
In this edition we decided to organize a competition for the Commercial Spot promoting KAN Festival. From ten sent projects jury:

2. Marta Pietruszka - Kurator Wideoprzestrzeni
3. Beata Bartecka - Kurator Wideoprzestrzeni
4. Tomasz Jakub Sysło –The Foundation Artistik
5. Grzegorz Paterka – The Organizator of KAN
decided to award with 500 zł a project of high functionality and great idea. The project was created by:
